Marine mammal studies to address future challenges in Seasonal characterisation of maritime traffic and the relationship with cetacean presence in the Western Mediterranean Sea. Marine Pollution Bulletin, Vol. , Issue. , p. Male and female bottlenose dolphins Tursiops spp. have different strategies to avoid interactions with. • Deep-sea mining is the process of retrieving mineral deposits from the deep sea – the area of the ocean below m. • Depleting terrestrial deposits and rising demand for metals are stimulating interest in the deep sea, with commercial mining imminent. • The scraping of the sea floor and pollution from mining processes can wipe out entire species – many yet to be discovered.

In particular, we apply a framework specifying policy, economic, social, technical, environmental, and legal (PESTEL) factors to explore governance arrangements in four case study sites in different sea basins around Europe (the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, and the Baltic Sea).

Marine pollution occurs when harmful effects result from the entry into the ocean of chemicals, particles, industrial, agricultural and residential waste, noise, or the spread of invasive percent of marine pollution comes from land. Air pollution is also a contributing factor by carrying off pesticides or dirt into the ocean. Land and air pollution have proven to be harmful to. Microplastics are emerging pollutants in marine and coastal environments and are of concern worldwide. This paper systematically summarizes the research progress on microplastics pollution and its ecological effects in the coastal environment around the world during the past ten years. There remain some key technical points that need to be solved urgently to study mircroplastics pollution.

Buat-Menard, P. in Strategies and Advanced Techniques for Marine Pollution Studies: Mediterranean Sea (eds Giam, C. & Dou, H. M.) (Springer, Berlin, ). Oil pollution destroys the marine biota and consequently degrades the natural sea resources.

The oil pollution attacked some fishing zones and some beaches (1). In this study a computer database was fed to monitor the oil pollution along the Egyptian coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The trends in chlorophyll concentrations show improvements in the eutrophication status in some of Europe’s seas, due to the successful implementation of nutrient management strategies.

The highest chlorophyll concentrations are generally observed in transitional and coastal waters of the marine (sub)regions, in response to elevated nutrient concentrations in those waters.

Decreasing. Read the latest articles of Science of The Total Environment atElsevier’s leading platform of peer-reviewed scholarly literature. The Mediterranean Sea is a marine biodiversity hot spot.

Here we combined an extensive literature analysis with expert opinions to update publicly available estimates of major taxa in this marine ecosystem and to revise and update several species lists. We also assessed overall spatial and temporal patterns of species diversity and identified major changes and threats.

The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) was established in It aims the protection of areas and biological diversity in the Mediterranean Sea against pollution by oil and other harmful substances.

According to the REMPEC database on alerts and accidents in the Mediterranean Sea, a high. Examples of successful implementation of nutrient management strategies can be found in, for example, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea regions, where decreasing trends are observed.

The highest nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations are generally observed in transitional and coastal waters of the marine (sub)regions, which reflects the influence of direct and diffuse inputs of nutrients in the. AbstractThe Mediterranean Sea is surrounded by 22 coastal States, making it one of the world’s most international bodies of water.

It is also the habitat for o species of fish and other marine life, many of which are in danger of extinction due to significant levels of pollution. By concluding the Barcelona Convention incoastal States and the European Union sought to reduce.

The Committee on Shipboard Pollution Control was formed under the auspices of the Naval Studies Board, based on discussions between U.S. Navy and National Research Council representatives. The issues involved in shipboard pollution control are a complex mixture of Navy management, congressional mandate, international agreements, environmental. Both species have had a great effect on the native communities in the Mediterranean, particularly on beds of the native sea grass, Posidonia marina, already stressed by other factors, such as pollution (Occhipinti-Ambrogi ).
